IGKA katas

Gosoku-Ryu, a style devised by revered Sake Takayuki Kubota, literally means hard and fast, incorporates various movements preparing one to cover different directions in which one can face an attack. Gosoku-Ryu katas lay emphasis on generating power through speed, quick body shifting, and rotation of the hip while delivering a punch, footwork, proper balance during movements, circular movements and correct execution of the technique. All the above parameters are of paramount importance while performing a Gosoku-Ryu kata. Fast foot movements, followed by blocks and completed with a strike when executed with power and speed can kill the harmful intent of any assailant.

Kihon katas devised by Soke Kubota have very deep and positive consequence when practiced over and over again. Stances (zenkutsu dachi, kiba dachi, kokutsu dachi) which form the basis of all the movements in karate are designed in a very simple and rhythmic way. This enables the student to perfect the stance, punches and kicks without realizing it. Speed, power, precision, hand-eye coordination, quick body shifting movements are very well incorporated while designing the katas.

The beauty of the katas is that they can be easily followed and mastered by anybody, especially children. Before beginning to read and write, the child learns the basic phonics and alphabets. Similarly, the kihon katas form the back bone for higher learning. Many karatekas are always in a hurry to graduate to higher katas without paying due attention to the basics. It can easily be compared to a building without proper foundation. Kihon katas form the foundation for higher learning. As you cannot build a lasting and strong structure without proper foundation, so also you cannot be a skilled karateka without practicing and perfecting the kihon katas.

The new kihon kata series, recently introduced by Soke Kubota, are so beautifully designed that basic stance, blocks and kicks are wonderfully blended in their forms. These katas are very easy to master and memorise and it also breaks the monotony of practicing the same as an exercise.

Kihon katas, when practiced diligently, help in the improvement of speed, leg movements and balance which leads to better performance in kumite contests. These basic katas will prepare the junior karatekas both physically and mentally and as he/she graduates to higher belts, the complex katas become easier to master.
